EU releases official announcement: Malathion is limited to permanent greenhouse use

On October 9, 2018, the European Union issued an announcement (EU) 2018/1495, which limits the use of Malathion to permanent greenhouses and is intended for use by professionals only. The list of approved substances (EU) 540/2011 is also revised. The announcement will take effect on October 28.

According to the announcement, EU member states should revise or revoke all authorizations for plant protection products containing Malathion by April 29, 2019. According to Article 46 of the European Union Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009 on the grace period, EU member states have a 15-month grace period, that is, the grace period ends on January 29, 2020.
